When people ask me what type of music I play I am unsure how to reply. I’m a singer-songwriter so it’s all original and, since I’ve been writing and singing for a number of years, the styles and content notably change along the way. It’s hard to pin me down to a genre though, inevitably, I am often categorised as Folk or Folk-Rock because I am an acoustic musician. I don’t mind this, but it isn’t really accurate. Perhaps it’s best just to see what other people have to say on the subject:

REVIEWS

“I know we have a lot of home-grown female singers who are very underrated but Benita is quite simply the possessor of one of the best voices to come out of the U.K. in many a year. . it’s not folk and it’s not rock or pop, it’s Benita Johnson doing her thing and it’s beautiful. . . simply breathtaking. . .” (Malcolm Carter, PennyBlackMusic.co.uk)

“Grandiose, poetic and almost spiritual” (Alfie Kingston, Sound Music Reviews)

“Her song-writing is top-quality stuff, and it’s music that you just gotta hear for yourself. . . I’d be surprised if you’re not convinced you’re in the presence of an unsung genius”. David Kidman December 2010, Netrhythms Reviews

“Gorgeous voice, wonderful melodies; folk with a soulful, sassy heart” (Subba-Cultcha.com)

“Benita is an extra-ordinary talent. There’s just no other way to put it.” (David Kidman, Folk Roundabout)

“Folk with a soulful, sassy heart” (Subba-cultcha.com)

“This is someone who seems to have everything in place for world domination, or at the very least, a permanently reserved place at the top singer-songwriter table” (Zeitgeist)
